Breaking Travel News goes digital

Visit London is launching London TV, an “on demand” service that will be available to 137 million broadband users around the world.

The broadband service is a key part of Visit London’s digital strategy in the build up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

Programming from the channel will continue to be broadcast on airlines and in hotel rooms, black cabs, trains and buses and through television services such as Home Choice.

These outlets have accumulated a potential audience of 22 million since launch and Visit London plans to raise this universe to 65 million viewers by the end of 2006.

In addition a successful pilot study has led to a new London TV product designed specifically for hotels.  Directly targeting cash-rich visitors, London TV works with hotel concierges and Morris Visitor Publications to deliver an in-room guide to the best London has to offer, updated every week of the year.

Visit London’s Chief Executive James Bidwell said:

“Since we launched London TV the media landscape has changed dramatically. Showcasing London to potential visitors via broadband gives London TV a global distribution platform and access to a potential audience of over one hundred million.

Visit London is committed to a digital strategy which inspires and informs visitors. As media continues to evolve, our intention is to position as the portal for London tourism in the lead up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. Whether you are in Mumbai or Milwaukee, you will be able to watch video “on demand” clips of all the capital has to offer, to help you make the most of London”.

As a non linear medium gives 600,000 unique international and domestic visitors a month free access to London TV and has the advantage of offering users a direct online booking facility for travel, hotels, restaurants and more. Visit London has thirteen different websites in nine languages in ten countries.

London TV online provides full screen high quality “on demand” viewing. Visitors can experience “taster” selections of inspirational London programmes and watch a variety of comprehensive and informative programmes.

Launched in September 2004, as the first channel dedicated to providing detailed round the clock information about a single city, London TV provides information, inspiration and entertainment from the world’s most exciting city.
