VisitScotland employee awarded OBE

VisitScotland’s Marketing Director, Malcolm Roughead is being awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours list.

Malcolm, age 46, has been Marketing Director at Scotland’s national tourism agency VisitScotland since May 2001. He oversees the International Marketing, UK and Ireland Marketing, Business Tourism and research departments and gives strategic marketing direction to the organisation.


A graduate in Modern Languages from the University of Glasgow in 1981, Malcolm joined VisitScotland from Diageo where he was Global Sales and Marketing Director for Guinness World Records. He has also worked in marketing for well known brands Nestlé and Beechams in London.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing and a Fellow of the Marketing Society. In 2004 Malcolm was awarded Scottish Marketeer of the Year at the Scottish Marketing Awards.

Malcolm Roughead said: “I am delighted and very surprised to have been given this honour. This is a measure of how far VisitScotland has come over the past few years. This is not about just one person - it is about the whole team and I accept this on behalf of everyone in the organisation.”
