Expedia, Inc. has announced that Steven McArthur has joined the company as president of Expedia
North America. He reports to Erik Blachford, president and CEO of IAC Travel. McArthur, formerly executive vice president, Web services at America Online, Inc., assumes day-to-day responsibility of Expedia, Inc.‘s North America operations, including management of the Expedia.com® travel site.

“I am delighted to have Steven join the team at Expedia,” Blachford said. “He has a proven record of building companies and a deep understanding of the online market, both of which will be a tremendous asset to the senior management team at Expedia.”

In his most recent position at AOL, McArthur led the company’s Web and messaging services, including the Netscape® portal, AOL® instant messaging products, personals, network security solutions, and MapQuest®. Previously, he served as president and CEO of AOL Canada.

“Expedia has built a valuable online marketplace that brings together travel suppliers and consumers, and I am eager to help lead the company as we continue to work with our partners to meet the needs of travelers,” McArthur said. “We have an exciting opportunity at Expedia to build on our position as the most frequently visited travel site on the Internet and to find more ways to help everyone everywhere plan and purchase everything in travel.”
