USVI receives "World’s Best Honeymoons" Awards during Caribbean Week

The U.S. Virgin Islands is the recipient of several honeymoon awards presented by Conde Nast Publications in its eighth annual “World’s Best Honeymoons 2004” survey.  The awards were formally
presented to the USVI Department of Tourism on June 2, during Caribbean Week
activities in New York City, where Commissioner Pamela C. Richards and other tourism
representatives are promoting St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas this week.

“It is an honour to accept these prestigious awards, which recognise the most
elite destinations from around the world,” Commissioner Richards said, “and
it is particularly satisfying to receive the awards during Caribbean Week
festivities amongst so many other outstanding Caribbean destinations.”

The U.S. Virgin Islands ranked number seven in the “Overall Favourite
Honeymoon Destination” category for international travel destinations.
Amongst other Caribbean islands who received awards in this category, the
USVI ranked number three for the best overall destination in the Caribbean.
The USVI also ranked among the top 10 international destinations in the
following categories:  “Best for Beaches” (#5); “Best for Snorkeling and
Diving” (#7); and “Best for Romance” (#10).

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas
also placed fifth in the category for “Best Resort Spa.”  The winners of the
“World’s Best Honeymoons 2004” awards were selected by a poll of more than
400 travel agents certified by the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA)
who specialise in honeymoons.
