Avianca-TACA confirms eco-efficient order from Airbus

Avianca-TACA has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for 51 eco-efficient aircraft, including 33 A320neo and 18 A320 aircraft, in a bid to become the youngest fleet in Latin America and reduce its environmental impact.

The A320neo model incorporates the latest generation engines and large “Sharklet” wing tip devices, which together will deliver 15 per cent in fuel savings.

This reduction is equivalent to 1.4 million litres of fuel less per year (the consumption of 1,000 mid-sized cars), saving 3,600 tons of CO2 per aircraft per year.

The A320neo also has a considerably smaller noise footprint.

Fabio Villegas Ramírez, chief executive of AviancaTaca Holding, said: “With this purchase, we’ll continue the process of modernising our aircraft and renewing our fleet.

“Our goal is to offer travellers the most comfortable and efficient aircraft in the market.

“Besides this, the A320neo aircraft is recognised for cutting edge technology and environmentally-friendly configuration.”
