Wizz Air to launch new flights from Budapest to Frankfurt
Welcoming over 800,000 visitors last month, an all-time January high, Budapest Airport today celebrates another route announcement with home-based carrier Wizz Air. Boosting the Hungarian gateway’s links to Germany, the ultra-low-cost carrier has confirmed the launch of a daily service to Frankfurt, as of December 15th.
Wizz Air welcomes 23m passengers in record year
Wizz Air has closed another outstanding year with record passenger numbers and further expansion of its network. The airline carried 23 million passengers in 2016, representing a 19 per cent passenger growth, year-on-year.
Wizz Air to link north-east England to Sofia, Bulgaria
Wizz Air will begin operating flights between Doncaster Sheffield Airport and Sofia. The carrier will be operating Yorkshire’s only flights to the Bulgarian capital, running twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.
Wizz Air to launch flights from Luton to Suceava, Romania
Wizz Air today started operating its new service from London Luton to Suceava in Romania. The newest WIZZ route is operated four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Wizz Air currently offers 76 routes to 37 destinations in 14 countries from nine major UK airports, and just this week celebrated carrying 30 million passengers on UK routes since it launched its’ first route, from London Luton to Katowice, back in 2004.
Wizz Air launches Budapest-Varna flights
Budapest Airport has celebrated its resumption of seasonal services with Varna, the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Having operated the route previously in 2013, Wizz Air returns with a twice-weekly flight to Bulgaria’s main tourist destination following a significant growth in Bulgarian market popularity.
Wizz Air launches services to Transylvania, Romania
The Hungarian airline Wizz Air has launched a new service from Berlin Schönefeld to Cluj-Napoca in Romania. The flight departs from Berlin Schönefeld every Wednesday and Sunday at 13:25 and flies direct to Dracula’s home country. The return flight is on the same day at 12:00 and lands in Berlin at 12:55.
Michalopoulos takes up chief commercial role with Wizz Air
Wizz Air has rejigged its leadership team, with George Michalopoulos promoted to the position of chief commercial officer, effective from September 1st, 2016. In his new role, Michalopoulos will be reporting to József Váradi, chief executive officer.
Wizz Air launches new flights from Gatwick to Bucharest
Wizz Air will begin direct service from London’s Gatwick Airport to Bucharest from June 18th. The new Gatwick connection to Bucharest will be the only direct connection between the two airports, offering the easiest access to the Romanian capital from the south London hub. With a total of four Wizz Air direct flights a day between London and Bucharest, the new Gatwick route adds a second option for travel from London along with Wizz Air’s direct three-times-a-day flights between Bucharest and London Luton in north London.
Wizz Air to launch services from Olsztyn-Mazury Airport, Poland
Wizz Air has announced its eighth airport in Poland with the commencement of operations from Olsztyn-Mazury Airport. From June 18th, the airline will offer a new service to London Luton from Olsztyn-Mazury connecting Northeast Poland with the capital of the United Kingdom three times a week.
Wizz Air to launch Sofia, Bulgaria, service in November
Wizz Air will launch a new service from Budapest to Sofia, beginning November 1st. The service between the Hungarian and Bulgarian capitals will run three days a week. With the new routes, Wizz Air now offers low fare flights from Budapest to 48 destinations in 23 countries and flights from Sofia to 29 destinations in 15 countries.

Wizz Air launching three new services from Budapest to Liverpool and Reykjavik, commencing in March as well as a Budapest-Ibiza service commencing in June.
Budapest Airport construct new hangar for Wizz Air
Budapest Airport has begun work on the brand-new hangar for Wizz Air, which commences operation of its maintenance base in Budapest from September this year. The general contractor of the new hangar construction is Market Építő Zrt. Heavy machines once again started to roar at Ferenc Liszt Airport on Friday 17 April, between the two large maintenance and repair hangars.
