Westminster City Council launches free London Wi-Fi
Westminster City Council has joined forces with O2 to bring free Wi-Fi to the busiest parts of London ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games. Anyone in the area - which includes Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament - with a smartphone or tablet device will now be able to access Wi-Fi.
Free Wi-Fi for Kyoto business visitors
Business visitors to Kyoto will now have free access to Wi-Fi throughout the city. The scheme, which is the largest municipal scheme in Japan, is being launched in a bid to satisfy the needs of smart phone and tablet computer users attending conference and meeting events.
Boingo takes over Manhattan wi-fi network
Towerstream Corporation and Boingo Wireless have signed an agreement that will allow Boingo to manage internet services across the state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network in New York City’s Manhattan borough that is operated by Towerstream. The network will broadcast the “Boingo Hotspot” SSID and deliver a full Boingo retail experience.

Wireless Access for Health Project Works to Improve Public Health Care in the Philippines
The Philippines Department of Health, Tarlac Provincial Health Office and Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM - News), through its Wireless Reach™ initiative, today announced the successful completion of the Wireless Access for Health project’s pilot phase. The project participants leveraged their expertise and resources in public health, medical care, technology and training to create an electronic health record system that meets the needs of health care decision makers on varying levels, ranging from midwives to doctors to policy makers. Results at the conclusion of the pilot phase, which recorded over 12,000 patient consultations, indicate that such a system is not only feasible and improves patient care in rural health clinics, but also has a real impact for decision makers.
