An explosion has killed 2 people and injured more than 12 in the Turkish capital Ankara, according to reports.
On the Beach joins World Travel Awards in praise of holidays in Turkey
Online travel agency On the Beach has claimed Turkey’s succession of wins at the 2011 World Travel Awards proves the country’s credentials as one of Europe’s best tourist destinations. Turkey picked up 15 awards overall, with one of the biggest wins of the night going to Oludeniz, which was named Europe’s Leading Beach Destination.

Hotel performance in MENA region split down the Middle
Key hotel performance indicators for the Middle East and North Africa region are split down the middle, but post very good signs of improvement, according to the latest analysis from MKG Hospitality. Turkey - which will celebrate the arrival of the World Travel Awards later this week - has emerged as a star performer in the region, while Bahrain, Tunisia and Morocco have all seen figures hit by political instability in the region.

Turkey is one of the tourism success stories of the millennium. In the first four months of this year alone, tourist numbers rose 21 percent from the comparable period of 2010. Fuelling the growth is the country’s tourism jewel of Antalya, and its incredible beaches, hotels, history and climate.
Turkey tourism continues to soar
The number of tourists visiting Turkey rose 31 percent in April to 2.29 million compared with the same month last year, according to the Culture and Tourism Ministry. Germany provided the biggest source of growth, with Russia, the UK and France also fuelling numbers.
Turkey earthquake - three killed and 80 injured
At least three people have been killed and 80 injured after an earthquake measuring 5.9 struck north-west Turkey, around 300km west of the capital Ankara. The tremor struck just before midnight local time and centred on the town of Simav, in Kutahya province.
