Istanbul signs on as Destination Partner for WTM Latin America
WTM Latin America 2015 has welcomed Istanbul as its official Destination Partner. The leading business-to-business event aims to bring the world to Latin America and promotes Latin America to the world. With an abundance of historic, cultural and artistic riches to showcase to the Latin American market the Istanbul Municipality, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Istanbul Convention and Visitors’ Bureau have teamed up to be the official Destination Partners at WTM Latin America 2015.
Pegasus Airlines expands UK network with new Gatwick departure
Low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines is launching new flights between London Gatwick and Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen. The flights will offer passengers a chance to fly onto destinations across Turkey and beyond as well as to North Cyprus from May 1st. This new route flying between London Gatwick and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen will operate six days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, connecting on to further destinations across Turkey, including top summer destinations, cultural hotspots and gourmet havens, and beyond.
Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau appoints European representation
The Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau has appointed Redmint Communications as its public relations agency for the UK, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Redmint Communications will be promoting, publicising and strengthening Istanbul’s brand image as a leading congress and meetings destination via an effective and meaningful PR strategy.
Istanbul suicide bomber kills Turkish police officer
Tourists in the Turkish city of Istanbul are on high alert after a female suicide bomber blew herself up in a crowded area. One police officer was killed during the incident, while another was left with serious injuries. The woman walked into a police station in the historic area of Sultanahmet, close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.
Latest balloon crash kills tourist in Turkey
A tourist has been killed in the Güvercinlik Valley in Cappadocia, Turkey, following the latest in a string of balloon crashes. Nine others are reportedly injured following the incident, with the balloon carrying Chinese and Malaysian tourists.

New passport guidance for Turkey
In new guidance for foreign passport-holders entering Turkey, passports must be valid for at least 60 days from the date of expiry of a traveller’s visa, visa exemption period or residency permit to be able to enter the country before December 31st 2014. That is to say that a traveller leaving Turkey on August 20th 2014 for example should hold a passport that is valid until at least October 20th 2014.

Turkish sites recognised by UNESCO World Heritage
Bursa and Cumalikizik, considered the birthplace of the Ottoman Empire, and the multi-layered cultural landscape of Izmir’s Pergamon have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The decision was made at the recent 38th World Heritage Committee meeting, held at Qatar’s National Congress Centre in Doha.
Two Brits killed in Turkish road accident
The Turkish Ministry of Tourism & Culture has confirm the death of two British nationals, Alison May Conroy and Valerie Ann Olton, in Seydikemer in Fethiye province. The pair died while on a jeep safari.

In a move that makes travelling to Turkey simpler and easier, a new visa procedure has been in place since 11 April 2014. The new Electronic Visa Application System enables visitors to obtain an e-Visa conveniently online.
