Spirit Airlines pilots go on strike
Over 400 pilots at US carrier Spirit Airlines have gone on strike after failing to reach an agreement with management over pay and benefits. The five-day strike is due to end tomorrow and was called by the Air Line Pilots Association.
Ryanair bumps up baggage fees for summer
Ryanair has risked the wrath of passengers, increasing the cost of checked-in baggage for the duration of the summer season. However, Miami-based Spirit Airlines has gone one step further, introducing a $45 charge to passengers wishing to bring luggage into the cabin.
Spirit Airlines expands Caribbean network
Spirit Airlines is further expanding its Caribbean route network with the introduction of new service between its Fort Lauderdale home and Santiago, Dominican Republic. Beginning 18 June 2009, the low cost carrier will offer four weekly flights to Santiago, Dominican Republic from Fort Lauderdale, including connections from 16 cities in the United States.
Spirit Airlines launches new Port of Spain route
Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines continues to expand its Caribbean network by launching a non-stop service from its Fort Lauderdale hub to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Port of Spain becomes Spirit’s 25th Caribbean/Latin American destination and the 43rd city it serves.
Spirit starts flights to Panama City
Fort Lauderdale’s hometown of low cost carrier Spirit Airlines begins three weekly non-stop flights to Panama City, Panama tomorrow, with increased frequency to daily service starting May 1, 2008.
