Today’s announcement that there will be no changes to the APD banding system is deeply disappointing and is yet another blow to the aviation industry in the UK following the rise in APD revealed by the Chancellor in his Autumn statement.

Singapore Airlines confirmed B777-300ER order with Boeing
Singapore Airlines has firmed up an order with Boeing for eight more B777-300ERs for use on medium and long-haul routes. The order was announced in August when a letter of intent was inked, with a firm purchase agreement now in place, enabling deliveries of the aircraft to begin in the 2013/14 financial year.

Boeing and Singapore Airlines have announced an order for eight additional 777-300 Extended Range (ER) airplanes. “This order is part of our ongoing fleet expansion and modernisation program, which enables us to offer our latest cabin products to our customers,” said Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer for Singapore Airlines.

Scoot, the new medium and long-haul low-cost division of Singapore Airlines which was formally launched in November, has reached a tentative agreement with Routes to support its network development. Signed earlier this week at the IATA Slots conference in Singapore, the agreement will see Scoot use the respected Route Exchange platform.
High fuel prices slash profits at Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airways has reported a net profit of $239 million in the first half of the 2011-12 financial year, 62 per cent lower than the same period a year ago. The fall was principally on account of high fuel costs, the carrier said in a statement to markets earlier.

Singapore Airlines signs codeshare with Ethiopian Airlines
From November 1st 2011, Singapore Airlines’ customers will have the option of flying to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city, through a codeshare agreement with future Star Alliance partner Ethiopian Airlines. Under the agreement, SIA will add its ‘SQ’ code to Ethiopian-operated flights operating daily between Dubai and Addis Ababa.
Virgin Australia links with Singapore Airlines for codeshare deal
Officials at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission have provisionally approved a codeshare agreement between Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia. Under the proposed alliance, the airlines will cooperate on all aspects of their Australia – Singapore services and any international and domestic connecting routes, including joint pricing and scheduling and joint marketing and sales.
Singapore Airlines to launch low-cost Scoot in April 2012
Reports from Singapore suggest flag-carrier Singapore Airlines will launch its highly anticipated low-cost carrier in April next year. Straits Times reports the carrier will be called Scoot Airlines and will wow guests with in-flight wi-fi as well as a host of other attractions.
