Adventure of the Seas to undergo $61m makeover
Royal Caribbean International will showcase an array of all-new thrills and enhancements on-board Adventure of the Seas this November, following a $61 million revitalisation. The updates will include new dual racer waterslides, Cyclone and Typhoon, the popular FlowRider surf simulator, and a children’s aqua park, Splashaway Bay.
Royal Caribbean signs with STX for three new vessels
Royal Caribbean Cruises has signed a memorandum of understanding with French Shipbuilder STX France to build a fifth Oasis-class ship for delivery in the spring of 2021. As part of the deal STX has also signed to build two additional Edge-class ships scheduled for delivery in the autumn of 2021 and 2022.
World’s largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas, arrives in Southampton
The port of Southampton, England, was bustling today as onlookers gathered to be among the first to see the world’s largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas, upon her first arrival into port. After 32 months of construction, the ship’s arrival marks a major milestone for Royal Caribbean International as Harmony becomes the 25th ship in the fleet.
Royal Caribbean welcomes largest ever cruise ship to fleet
Royal Caribbean International has honoured the crew and project team of the new Harmony of the Seas at a traditional delivery and flag changing ceremony in Saint Nazaire, France. Following 32 months of construction at the STX France shipyard involving thousands of shipyard employees, sub-contractors and suppliers, the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship is now home to 2,100 crew members from 77 different nationalities.
Fan Bingbing named as Ovation of the Seas godmother
Royal Caribbean International has announced that internationally-acclaimed Chinese actress, Fan Bingbing, will be the Godmother for Ovation of the Seas. The announcement was made by Zinan Liu, president, Royal Caribbean International - China and North Asia Pacific, at a press conference at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.
Royal Caribbean to launch Orbiter of the Galaxies spaceship by 2030
Royal Caribbean International has announced it is boldly going where no cruise company has gone before by offering the world’s first cruise experience to space; with the first voyage of its state-of-the-art spaceship, Orbiter of the Galaxies today confirmed for 2030. Construction of the extraordinary space and cruise ship hybrid is underway and Royal Caribbean has unveiled the first images of this cosmic experience to the public.
Ovation of the Seas adds new UK inaugural sailing

Jewel of the Seas to undergo $30m overhaul
Royal Caribbean International has announced that Jewel of the Seas will sail out for the summer 2016 Mediterranean season boasting a new shine and ready to explore the ‘old world.’ The 90,090 gross-registered-ton ship, featuring nearly three acres of exterior glass will receive a complete makeover from bow-to-stern, unveiling a fresh and thoroughly contemporary style.
Royal Caribbean to bring Grease to high seas
Royal Caribbean has announced Broadway’s hit musical Grease will be debuting on its newest ship Harmony of the Seas, which launches in Europe in May 2016. The show will then take the stage in July on-board Independence of the Seas, which returns to her homeport of Southampton in May for the summer season.
Royal Caribbean confirms latest Quantum-class ship order
Royal Caribbean Cruises has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Meyer Werft in Germany to order a fifth Quantum-class ship for delivery in autumn 2020. “It is such a pleasure to announce the order of another Quantum-class ship as we are welcoming Anthem of the Seas to North America,” said Richard Fain, chairman, Royal Caribbean Cruises.
Royal Caribbean appoints new marketing leadership
Royal Caribbean International has announced the appointment of a new marketing director, Tamara Strauss after a brief consultancy period to lead brand strategy and a repositioning of the company’s marketing communications in the UK and Ireland. Strauss will head up the marketing, communications and distribution teams, drawing on her experience in online, trade marketing and communications to bring the Royal Caribbean International brand to a wider audience, targeting the new-to-cruise audience in the UK and Ireland in innovative and exciting ways.
