Routes 2012: LOT Polish Airlines outlines ambitious Dreamliner plans
LOT Polish Airlines will become the first European operator of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner when it welcomes the delivery of the first of eight aircraft it has on order in November this year. The Star Alliance member has this past week confirmed its planned scheduled operations of the type after opening reservations for the aircraft on flights from Warsaw to Beijing, Chicago, New York and Toronto.

Routes 2012: Lion Air to launch new low-cost carrier in Malaysia
Indonesian low-cost carrier Lion Air is to partner with Malaysia’s minority state-owned National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) to establish a new carrier. The start-up, named Malindo Airways, will be 51 per cent controlled by NADI and 49 per cent by Lion Air and will operate as a hybrid airline.
Routes 2012: Thomson prepares to become first leisure Dreamliner operator
Thomson Airways will next year become the first leisure carrier to begin passenger operations with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline, part of the European tour operator TUI, plans to introduce the type into service from May 1st, 2013 and is currently looking at the exciting network opportunities the modern generation airliner will bring to its customers.
Routes 2012: Alitalia jets into Abu Dhabi
Italian flag-carrier Alitalia is to inaugurate flights to World Routes host city Abu Dhabi before the end of this year after formalising a codeshare arrangement with United Arab Emirates national carrier Etihad Airways on the proposed link from Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport. The new four times weekly service is due to commence on December 1st, 2012, subject to government approvals, and will be flown using an Airbus A330.
Routes 2012: airblue considers UK expansion options
Pakistan’s second largest carrier, airblue, is in discussions plans to expand its activities in the UK market as it embarks on a fleet expansion following the arrival of additional A320 Family aircraft and its first A340-300 wide-body jets. The airline is studying new flights to London and Birmingham while it plans to also increase its presence in Manchester, an existing market for the carrier.

German carrier OLT Express is to realign its business model and introduce new low-cost, non-stop connections from three German regional airports from next month as it expands its point-to-point offering in Germany and wider European market.
