Works begins on Metropolitan Convention Centre in Quito, Ecuador
Construction has begun on a new Convention Centre in the heart Andean capital of Quito, due to be completed in the second half of 2018. The aim of the Metropolitan Convention Centre is to position the city as a leading destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions both on a regional and an international level.

Quito to welcome Routes America in 2018
Quito and Corporación Quiport, the concessionaire of the Mariscal Sucre International Airport, will host Routes Americas 2018. The event is the only one on the international calendar that brings together airports and airlines of the region seeking to develop new connectivity alternatives.

Low-cost airline Wingo launches Quito-Bogota flights
A new milestone in connectivity has been reached in Ecuador, with the inaugural flight of low-cost airline Wingo on the Quito-Bogota route. There was a celebratory atmosphere at Mariscal Sucre Airport before the first passengers boarded the new flight, which will join both capital cities with four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Quiport steps into leadership role with ACI-LAC
The general assembly of Airports Council International Latin America-Caribbean appointed its new officers for a term of two years. Corporación Quiport, in the person of its president Andrew O’Brian, was elected first vice president of the organisation, which represents airports in the region.

Quito set to welcome hundreds of thousands of guests for Habitat III
From October 17th-20th Quito, the capital of Ecuador, will welcome more than 30,000 people at the Habitat III conference, the global summit of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. The event is celebrated every 20 years and will be the first summit ever to be held in a Latin American city.

Carlota Hotel opens to guests in Quito, Ecuador
A brand new sustainable luxury boutique hotel has opened in the heart of the bustling historic district of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. The Carlota Hotel is located in a renovated house built at the turn of the century circa 1905 and is the first hotel in the country to be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified by the US.

Mariscal Sucre International Airport takes top title at World Travel Awards
For the third year running, Mariscal Sucre International Airport has been recognised by the World Travel Awards as South America’s Leading Airport. At a gala ceremony at Swissôtel Lima in Perú, Andrew O’Brian, president, Corporación Quipor, accepted the trophy.

Quito appoints UK representation as European presence grows
Travel PR and marketing agency Lotus has been appointed to promote travel to the Ecuadorian capital Quito in the United Kingdom. Lotus will be working in alliance with Newlink Group, an internationally recognised consulting firm, to execute an integrated communications and marketing programme in the UK market. Quito, the first city to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Latin America’s bourgeoning metropolises.

Quiport leads tourism recovery in Ecuador
In Ecuador, an emergency terminal set up by Quiport has led efforts to help the tourism industry to recover after the earthquake. The city of Manta, one of the main tourism destinations in Ecuador on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, was disconnected from the rest of the country by air after the 7.8 earthquake which hit on April 16th and left the passenger terminal of the city’s airport unusable for commercial flights.
