The first major phase of the £1 billion transformation of Manchester Airport has been completed, as the project marks the six-month milestone.

Last year saw continued growth at MAG, the UK’s largest airports group, as its three airports saw increased demand from passengers and airlines for flights. Manchester Airport grew 8.5 per cent year-on-year to serve 27.8 million passengers in 2017, more than have ever flown from Manchester before.

The government’s new aviation strategy should set out an ambitious plan for improving international connectivity from UK airports as part of its vision for a new global Britain, according to MAG.

MAG airports saw continued growth in their busiest month of the year, as together they served 6.6 million people in August. The growth is being driven by airlines putting on more seats to more destinations for August holidaymakers than ever before.

Manchester Airports Group is announcing changes to its executive committee, which will result in new chief executive taking charge at Manchester and London Stansted airports. Ken O’Toole will take up the role of chief executive at London Stansted Airport, while Andrew Cowan will replace him as chief executive at Manchester Airport.

The secretary of state for transport, Chris Grayling, has visited Manchester Airport to see work begin on its ten year, £1 billion transformation programme. The programme is designed to deliver a major boost to the UK’s growth prospects and international competitiveness.
