Emirates continues to grow operations at Manchester Airport
Emirates revealed the ongoing demand for its Manchester to Dubai route, reporting a 9.5 per cent annual growth on 2015. A total of 610,000 passengers have flown between the two cities this year, and Emirates is all set to hit the record milestone of 1,000,000 during the 2016 financial year.
MAG defies Brexit gloom to see passenger numbers soar
More than six million passengers flew through MAG’s airports in August, as the summer season continued to surpass expectations. At Manchester, 2,934,393 passengers travelled through the airport last month, an increase of nine per cent on August 2015. That means that Manchester’s 12 month rolling total now stands at 24,605,575 passengers.
Flybe adds new routes from Manchester
European regional airline Flybe is starting its new year-round daily service to Lyon from Manchester Airport. The airline has also confirmed it will be adding Chambery as a new destination to its Manchester 2016-17 Winter schedule. Customers from Manchester will have a direct link to the historic city of Lyon that is renowned as a World Heritage Site and thriving cultural centre.
Manchester Airport unveils new Escape Lounge
Passengers can start their holidays in style after Manchester Airport unveiled a new look, expanded Escape Lounge in Terminal Two. The airport has spent £1.9 million on the lounge which has increased in capacity by a third with room for up to 212 passengers.
Beijing flights drive up passenger numbers at Manchester Airport
The launch of the north of England’s first ever flight service to mainland China helped drive annual passenger numbers at Manchester Airport over the 24 million mark for the first time in its 78-year history. June saw 2,520,036 passengers fly through the gateway, which is a 9.22 per cent increase on the same month last year.
MAG wins Connecticut airport lounge deal
MAG USA has been awarded a contract to design, build and operate an Escape Lounge at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. MAG USA is a subsidiary of MAG, owner of Stansted and Manchester airports in the UK. The contract, awarded by Bradley International Airport’s owner, the Connecticut Airport Authority, is the third major contract win for the new MAG USA business in its first year of operation.
Hainan Airlines takes off from Manchester for first time

Hainan Airlines joins with Manchester Airport to support Dragon Boat Festival
Hainan Airlines and Manchester Airport are set to join forces to sponsor the UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, which takes place on Sunday, June 5th in Salford Quays. Organised by the Xinhua Chinese Association, the Dragon Boat Festival is a key highlight in the lunar calendar for the Chinese community and is perfectly timed for the start of Hainan Airlines’ new direct service to Manchester from Beijing, which launches on June 10th.
Etihad Airways celebrates a decade of Manchester flights
Etihad Airways has marked the tenth anniversary of its services to Manchester Airport. Since the route was launched in March 2006, Etihad Airways has operated over 10,000 flights between Manchester and Abu Dhabi. Due to its popularity in the north of England, the frequency increased to twice daily in August 2011.
Manchester Airport connected to early morning rail services
Staff and travellers will soon be able to take off with Metrolink’s new early morning service to Manchester Airport. From March 21st, trams will run from Firswood to Manchester Airport from 03.40 every day. The new service will see the first tram arrive at approximately 03.40 - in advance of 04:00 shift starts, which generally sees a large number of employees starting work.
Manchester Airport unveils £1 billion expansion plan
Manchester Airport has outlined its vision how it can help drive the creation of Northern Powerhouse, as managing director Ken O’Toole unveiled a new fly-through video showing how the airport will look in ten years following a £1 billion investment. Subject to securing planning permission, it will see a state-of-the-art terminal building created through the expansion of the airport’s existing Terminal Two building.
Shaheen Air set to link UK to Pakistan with Manchester flights
Shaheen Air will launch European flights next month, with the start of a new service between Manchester Airport and Islamabad in Pakistan. The Pakistani airline will offer three services a week to Benazir Bhutto International Airport from March 15th A330-200 aircraft. The services will operate inbound on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
