New premium lounge for Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport has unveiled plans for a new brand of lounge that will open in Terminal Three in April costing £1.6 million. 1903, named after the year of the Wright Brothers first flight, will hold up to 71 people and provide a more premium offering for passengers looking to get their holidays off to a flying start.
Manchester Airport promotes USA options with new campaign
Manchester Airport has launched its first multi-channel, multi-audience marketing campaign to showcase the breadth of destinations it offers to the USA. The #USADirect campaign will see the airport reach out to all areas of its catchment area that spans as far north as the Scottish Borders, south to the Midlands, east to Yorkshire, and west to Merseyside and North Wales.

Cathay Pacific expands UK connections for summer 2017
On the back of strengthening demand for flights connecting Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, Cathay Pacific has announced that its current four-times-weekly service to Gatwick will become a daily operation from June 2017. In a further boost to the airline’s UK connectivity, Manchester will see the addition of a fifth weekly flight and become an all Airbus A350-900 operation in June.
All-time record passenger numbers drive profits at MAG Airports
MAG has reported continued strong growth in EBITDA for the six months to September 30th, recording an increase of 6.6 per cent, £216 million. New route development has been the principal driver, seeing passenger numbers increase to pre-recession levels at Manchester and London Stansted airports. MAG passenger numbers group-wide in the first six months of the financial year were up 7.7 per cent year-on-year to 32 million.
Manchester Airport reaches 25 million passenger milestone
Manchester Airport has reached 25 million passengers for the first time since opening in 1938. This equates to year on year growth of 9.3 per cent and has been driven by the addition of new long haul services and increased frequency and capacity on short haul routes.
Manchester Airport joins WeChat and Wiebo to cater to Chinese passengers
Manchester Airport has added Weibo and WeChat, the Chinese equivalents of Twitter and Whatsapp, to its range of social media tools in order to better communicate passengers from the destination. The moves comes following the success of Manchester Airport’s new direct flight to Beijing with Hainan Airlines, with almost 40,000 passengers having travelled the route since launch in June this year.
Emirates continues to grow operations at Manchester Airport
Emirates revealed the ongoing demand for its Manchester to Dubai route, reporting a 9.5 per cent annual growth on 2015. A total of 610,000 passengers have flown between the two cities this year, and Emirates is all set to hit the record milestone of 1,000,000 during the 2016 financial year.
MAG defies Brexit gloom to see passenger numbers soar
More than six million passengers flew through MAG’s airports in August, as the summer season continued to surpass expectations. At Manchester, 2,934,393 passengers travelled through the airport last month, an increase of nine per cent on August 2015. That means that Manchester’s 12 month rolling total now stands at 24,605,575 passengers.
Flybe adds new routes from Manchester
European regional airline Flybe is starting its new year-round daily service to Lyon from Manchester Airport. The airline has also confirmed it will be adding Chambery as a new destination to its Manchester 2016-17 Winter schedule. Customers from Manchester will have a direct link to the historic city of Lyon that is renowned as a World Heritage Site and thriving cultural centre.

Passengers can start their holidays in style after Manchester Airport unveiled a new look, expanded Escape Lounge in Terminal Two. The airport has spent £1.9 million on the lounge which has increased in capacity by a third with room for up to 212 passengers.
Beijing flights drive up passenger numbers at Manchester Airport
The launch of the north of England’s first ever flight service to mainland China helped drive annual passenger numbers at Manchester Airport over the 24 million mark for the first time in its 78-year history. June saw 2,520,036 passengers fly through the gateway, which is a 9.22 per cent increase on the same month last year.
