Malaysia Airlines Berhad has received its Air Operator Certificate from the Department of Civil Aviation at Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport in Putrajaya. The AOC will allow Malaysia Airlines to take flight as MAB today. MAB’s chief executive designate Christoph Mueller said: “We would like to thank the director general of DCA, Dato’ Sri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman for this very important milestone.”

Malaysia Airlines MH370 link confirmed for Reunion Island debris
Debris found on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean is “conclusively” from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak has confirmed. The Boeing 777 aircraft was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8th 2014 when it vanished from radar. All 239 people on board are presumed dead.

Russia blocks UN tribunal into MH17 disaster
Russian officials at the United Nations have vetoed a draft resolution to set up a tribunal to investigate the Malaysia Airlines MH17 disaster. The plane came down over Ukraine in July 2014 and is widely believed to have been hit by a missile fired by Russian-back rebels in the east of the country.
Malaysia Airlines plane makes emergency landing in Sydney
A Malaysia Airlines plane has been forced to make an emergency landing in Melbourne, Australia, after reports of a possible engine fire. Flight MH148 was on route for Kuala Lumpur before returning to Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport shortly after take-off. The plane had 300 passengers on-board at the time of the incident.

Christoph Mueller, chief executive of Malaysian Airline System Berhad and CEO-designate of the new airline, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, has assured customers MAS operations will continue as normal with the appointment of the administrator. Malaysia Airlines remains continues to implement a restructuring plan which will see it cut upward of a third of its workforce in an effort to recover after two plane tragedies last year.

Malaysia Airlines will be undertaking a network rationalisation exercise as part of the national carrier’s 12-point Recovery Plan outlined by Khazanah Nasional last year. Government controlled Khazanah Nasional took control of the airline following the loss of two Malaysian Airlines planes in 2014. The revised network plan is in line with MAS’ overall strategy to be more regionally-focused, with a strong global connectivity through its oneworld alliance and partners.
