ITB Berlin 2014: Travel Technology halls booked up
Once again, Travel Technology is among the segments that are booming at this year’s ITB. With around 170 exhibitors, the Travel Technology halls (5.1, 6.1, 8.1 and 10.1) are booked up already. 30 new exhibitors will be taking part in the world’s largest travel trade show, including IATI, Nor1 Inc, Accelya, Gate7 Reservation Systems, Abreu Online, Roomize and Vioma.
ITB Berlin 2014: majority of halls already booked up
The outlook is exceptionally good for ITB Berlin as final preparations are under way for an event which between 5 and 9 March will be taking place for the forty-eighth time. Overall, Messe Berlin expects around 10,000 exhibiting companies and organisations from more than 180 countries to be present in the 26 halls on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

ITB Berlin: The travel preferences of young and old
Together, Germany and the UK represent Europe’s largest travel source market. Commissioned by ITB Berlin, IPK International examined the travel preferences of both younger and older holidaymakers in a special analysis of the World Travel Monitor, which shows that at 19 per cent (13 million trips) Germans occupy close to one-fifth of Europe’s entire holiday travel market for young people.
ITB Berlin: Russians prefer to book their holidays at the last moment
Booking one’s holidays at the last possible moment continues to be a popular trend: among the world’s most important travel markets last-minute bookings make up the biggest percentage of holidays. Russian citizens in particular prefer to book their holidays at short notice (less than a month before departing).
ITB Berlin is the official partner of ABAV, the tourism fair of Brazil
The long-standing collaboration between ITB Berlin and ABAV, the Tourism Fair of the Americas, is set to become even closer. For the second time the world’s leading travel trade show is due to be the official partner of Brazil’s largest tourism fair. From 4 to 8 September 2013, more than 60 countries, 2,700 exhibitors, 700 hosted buyers, over 30,000 trade visitors and 50,000 members of the public are expected to attend the 41st ABAV Tourism Fair of the Americas on the Anhembi exhibition grounds in São Paulo.
Travel agencies versus the internet: China and Russia are catching up with online travel bookings
In China and Russia more and more people are making use of the internet to book their trips instead of going to travel agencies. According to a special evaluation of IPK International’s World Travel Monitor, which was commissioned by ITB Berlin, from 2008 to 2012 the market share of internet bookings in China more than doubled, rising from 19 to 39 per cent. In Russia too, the internet has rapidly become an important medium for booking trips abroad. Over the last five years its market share has nearly quadrupled, rising from nine to 42 per cent.
ITB Berlin: Germans are travelling more often
Almost 50 per cent of Germans have already made up their minds to take an extra break in addition to their main annual holiday. According to the findings of a representative survey carried out by ADAC Reisemonitor and presented at ITB Berlin, around 45.1 per cent of the respondents said that in 2013 they were planning to go on an extra break taking five days or longer.
