Rupert Simoner has been appointed as the new chief executive of Vienna International Hotels & Resorts, Austria’s largest hotel operator. Simoner, who will take over on September 1st, has vast experience in the tourism and hospitality sector, most recently as senior vice president of Kempinski Europe and as general manager at the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains St. Moritz.
Following a poor first quarter, all segments have caught up over the year to end mostly flat compared to 2012, with only the luxury segment showing any real growth at 4% (all in rate, not occupancy). In fact there has been no occupancy (demand) growth at all across all segments this year compared to last.
