Higgins to become Gatwick chairman in January 2017
David Higgins will become chairman of Gatwick Airport from January 1st, replacing Roy McNulty, who will remain on the board as deputy chairman. Higgins is chairman of HS2 and a board member of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. McNulty said: “I am delighted David has accepted the appointment as the new chairman of Gatwick.”
Gatwick warns of disruption ahead of latest Southern strike
Gatwick is preparing for the latest bout of strike action at Southern Rail, warning passengers to expect significant disruption over the coming days. On December 13th, 14th and 16th, there will be no Southern trains and reduced Gatwick Express services.
Gatwick Airport appoints new chief operating officer
Gatwick Airport has revealed that Chris Woodroofe will become chief operating officer, driving the airport’s future growth and performance through infrastructure, technology and efficiency improvements. Currently head of passenger operations, Woodroofe has spent more than ten years at Gatwick and has a breadth of knowledge of the airport gained in a number of key roles including head of engineering and head of security and business continuity.
Gatwick unveils investment plans as passenger number rise
Gatwick Airport has announced its biggest-ever annual investment in development projects. The investment of £250 million for the forthcoming financial year is part of the airport’s £1.2 billion transformative capital investment plan to be spent over five years. Projects include the expansion of both North and South Terminal departure lounges and shopping facilities as well as a transformed railway station, working in conjunction with Network Rail, and more on-airport parking.

Gatwick Airport remains “ready to proceed” following the green-light for expansion at London Heathrow earlier. In a statement the airport said it “noted” the government announcement, but remains confident it could deliver additional capacity in the south-east quicker than its west London rival.
London runway decision to be made tomorrow
Chris Grayling, transport secretary for Britain, has revealed the long awaited decision about a new runway at one of London’s airports will finally be made on Tuesday. The proposals for expansion include a new runway to the north west of Heathrow Airport, an extension of Heathrow’s existing northern runway or a new runway to the south of Gatwick Airport.
Unite ballots on strike action at Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport has been accused of “blatant opportunism” over the closure of its final salary pension scheme by trade union Unite. The attack comes as the union serves notice that it will begin balloting its 1,800 members for strike action and action short of strike from next week.
Gatwick Airport welcomes government decision to boost China flights
Gatwick Airport has welcomed a new agreement between the UK and Chinese governments to more than double the number of permitted flights between China and the UK, paving the way for further opportunities to increase flights between Gatwick and China. Under the new deal passenger flights can now increase from the current maximum of 40 per week for each nation to up to 100, helping to boost tourism and trade opportunities for the UK.

Gatwick Airport has announced a strategic partnership with Bechtel to deliver a potential second runway at Gatwick by 2025. For the past two years Bechtel has been working with Gatwick Airport on developing a robust delivery programme, execution plan and logistics strategy to support the on-time delivery of a second runway and midfield terminal.
Gatwick Airport breaks single runway passenger record
Gatwick Airport is now in a league of its own as it breaks its own record for the number of passengers travelling on a single runway - more than 42 million passengers now travel through the airport annually. This new record was achieved on the same weekend that Cathay Pacific’s new route to Hong Kong joins the airport’s wide range of long-haul connections, further boosting Gatwick’s links to China and the Far East.
Cathay Pacific launches direct Hong Kong flight from London Gatwick
Cathay Pacific Airways today saw its first flight take off from London Gatwick to Hong Kong. The only non-stop service connecting Gatwick and Hong Kong, it will also be Cathay Pacific’s first long-haul route in the UK to feature the brand new Airbus 350-900 aircraft. Ideally placed to serve both leisure and business travellers, the new four-times weekly service will operate from Gatwick’s South Terminal.
Norwegian adds new low-cost flights from London Gatwick
Low-cost airline Norwegian continues its UK expansion, by putting on sale two new routes from London Gatwick to Keflavik, Iceland and Rovaniemi, Finland. From October 30th, Norwegian will add its first UK service to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. Three weekly flights will operate direct to Keflavik throughout winter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – perfect for a long weekend.
