David Higgins will become chairman of Gatwick Airport from January 1st, replacing Roy McNulty, who will remain on the board as deputy chairman. Higgins is chairman of HS2 and a board member of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. McNulty said: “I am delighted David has accepted the appointment as the new chairman of Gatwick.”

Gatwick Airport has revealed that Chris Woodroofe will become chief operating officer, driving the airport’s future growth and performance through infrastructure, technology and efficiency improvements. Currently head of passenger operations, Woodroofe has spent more than ten years at Gatwick and has a breadth of knowledge of the airport gained in a number of key roles including head of engineering and head of security and business continuity.

Gatwick Airport has announced its biggest-ever annual investment in development projects. The investment of £250 million for the forthcoming financial year is part of the airport’s £1.2 billion transformative capital investment plan to be spent over five years. Projects include the expansion of both North and South Terminal departure lounges and shopping facilities as well as a transformed railway station, working in conjunction with Network Rail, and more on-airport parking.

Cathay Pacific Airways today saw its first flight take off from London Gatwick to Hong Kong. The only non-stop service connecting Gatwick and Hong Kong, it will also be Cathay Pacific’s first long-haul route in the UK to feature the brand new Airbus 350-900 aircraft. Low-cost airline Norwegian continues its UK expansion, by putting on sale two new routes from London Gatwick to Keflavik, Iceland and Rovaniemi, Finland. From October 30th, Norwegian will add its first UK service to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. Three weekly flights will operate direct to Keflavik throughout winter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – perfect for a long weekend.
