Eurowings is pressing ahead swiftly with its recent decision to set up a new base on the Balearic island of Mallorca. The airline specialising in low-cost direct flights, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, has just released the first scheduled flights for booking which are to be operated by two Airbus A320 stationed at the airport in Palma de Mallorca.
Eurowings is taking the next step towards pan-European expansion, with the low-cost carrier opening its first base in a non-German-speaking foreign country in Palma de Mallorca. The Spanish island in the Mediterranean has long been seen as a top holiday destination with guaranteed sunshine far beyond Germany’s borders and has been breaking one visitor record after another for months.
Borussia Dortmund took off for the first time earlier on board their new team Airbus. The players of the eight-time German champions travelled – from Dortmund via Salzburg – to their first pre-season training camp on the Eurowings Airbus A320 painted in the club colours of black and yellow. Having their “own” aircraft went down well with the players who were waved off at Dortmund airport in the direction of the Kitzbühl Alps by Eurowings chief executives Oliver Wagner and Michael Knitter.
Eurowings has launched a new subsidiary in Austria. The first aircraft of Austrian Eurowings Europe took off on its initial flight to Alicante earlier. The passengers on the almost fully-booked flight to Alicante were looked after by the newly recruited and trained Eurowings Europe crew.
Eurowings has launched flights to the United States with Boston, MA as its first North American destination. The move comes as the carrier seeks to develop and expand its long-haul network. This new flight will give Boston-area residents the opportunity to fly direct to Cologne and beyond.
Eurowings continues to expand its services from its largest location in Düsseldorf and is launching a new connection to East Midlands Airport in the UK on March 27th. The regional airport offers fast access to the areas around Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. The German airline will operate the route every day except on Saturdays so that passengers can plan their private or business trips as flexibly as possible.
Flights offered by the Wings family of airlines, Eurowings and Germanwings, for next summer are now on sale. Departures planned between March 27th and October 29th next year are now open for booking. For the first time, travellers arranging their summer holidays next year can book their intercontinental flights with Eurowings and their European routes with Germanwings.
The new Eurowings is preparing for the start of its long-haul flights in November 2015. For this purpose the first long-haul plane, an Airbus A330-200, was lacquered in the new Eurowings design. The plane left the paint shop in Taipei, Taiwan, in the colours of the new Eurowings earlier and is being transferred to Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg for the installation of the cabins.
