Emirates to step up African service by 40%
Emirates is placing a strategic focus on Africa in the coming decade by increasing operations by over 40%, said Sir Tim Clark today speaking at the Africa Global Business Forum 2014.
Emirates signs on to build world-class airline in Angola
Emirates and the Republic of Angola, in its capacity as the majority shareholder of TAAG Linhas Aéreas De Angola, announced the signing of a management concession agreement which will see Emirates take a role in the management of TAAG. The agreement lays the foundation for both airlines to jointly leverage commercial opportunities in Africa and beyond.
Emirates flies into Tehran for one off A380 service
Emirates will operate a one-off Airbus A380 service to Imam Khomeini International Airport, Tehran, on September 30th 2014, in celebration of the launch of the fourth daily flight between the two cities which began on September 1st 2014. Emirates began flights to the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1990 and now operates four daily, non-stop flights between Dubai and Tehran.
Emirates to double A380 services to Mauritius ahead of schedule
Emirates will launch its second daily A380 service to Mauritius on October 26th this year, instead of December 1st as initially planned. This second A380 service, which will operate as flight EK703/704, replaces the existing Boeing 777 operation and will have a capacity of 489 passengers including 14 luxurious First Class Private Suites, 76 lie-flat beds in Business Class and 399 spacious seats in Economy Class.
Emirates upgrades Abuja, Nigeria, capacity
Only two months after launching its operations to Abuja, Emirates has announced it will upgrade the route’s operating aircraft to a Boeing 777-200ER, starting from October 1st 2014. Emirates launched a daily service to Abuja - its second Nigerian gateway and 22nd passenger destination in Africa - on August 1st utilising the Airbus A340-300.
Emirates and Jetstar expand codeshare deal
Emirates and Jetstar have announced the expansion of their codeshare and frequent flyer relationship, to 30 routes across the Asia Pacific region providing more choice to Emirates customers. From October 26th, Emirates will grow its codeshare on Jetstar to include Jetstar Airways services between Melbourne and Ayers Rock (Uluru), Christchurch to Wellington in New Zealand and three new destinations in south-east Asia from Jetstar Asia’s hub in Singapore.
Emirates boosts east Africa connections with new Dar es Salaam flight
Emirates has confirmed it will be able to connect even more people and cargo with Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, with the start of a second service to the east African coastal city from October 26th. The new five times weekly service will complement Emirates’ existing daily operation, and further boost inbound and outbound passenger traffic and cargo flows between Tanzania and Dubai, and Emirates’ worldwide network.
Emirates launches daily service to Brussels from Dubai
Emirates has launched the new daily service to Brussels in Belgium which will see up to 16,000 Emirates customers travelling on the daily Boeing 777-200LR between Dubai and Brussels each month. As the airline’s 145th worldwide route, Emirates will play a key role in further developing natural business links between Belgium and key markets in the Far East.
Emirates links Scandinavia to United Arab Emirates with Oslo flights
Emirates has expanded its Scandinavian reach with the start of its daily non-stop service to Oslo. Emirates’ daily flight to Oslo, operated with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, is the first international service to offer a First Class product in Norway. The inaugural flight today was welcomed by Avinor chief executive Dag Falk-Petersen, along with partners from the travel trade and local media.
Emirates expands Airbus A380 roll call with new Frankfurt flight
Emirates has added Frankfurt to its growing list of A380 destinations. With the addition of the German financial capital, Emirates now serves 30 global destinations with the A380. Thierry Antinori, Emirates chief commercial officer, arrived on the launch flight, and explained: “We are proud to fly our A380 to one of the key aviation hubs in Europe.”
Emirates A380 Experience takes off at Dubai Mall

Emirates signs memorandum of understanding with Arik Air
Emirates and Arik Air, West Africa’s leading airline, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and expand their existing commercial relationship and explore further areas of co-operation. Emirates and Arik Air currently have a one-way interline agreement, whereby Emirates passengers are connected throughout Nigeria and West Africa via Arik Air’s current domestic and regional network.
