Emirates has launched its second daily service from Dubai International Airport to Seattle–Tacoma International Airport. The new service, EK227, which began on 7th July and is operated by a Boeing 777-200LR, will depart Dubai at 3:15 a.m. and arrives in Seattle at 6:55 a.m. The return flight, EK228, departs Seattle at 9:40 a.m. and arrives in Dubai at 10:55 a.m. the following day.

Passenger numbers at Dubai International continued their rapid ascent in May as the airport welcomed 6.2 million customers, up 23.2 per cent from the same period last year, according to the monthly traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports. Passenger numbers rose 23.2 per cent to 6,267,640 compared to the 5,086,910 handled in May 2014 when the airport was reduced to one runway while a billion dollar refurbishment programme was conducted over an 80 day span.

Emirates has announced its plans to launch services to Multan, Pakistan, beginning August 1st this year. Service to Multan, Pakistan’s fifth largest city by population, will commence with four weekly flights operated by a Boeing 777-300 in a two-class configuration - 54 seats in Business Class and 310 in Economy Class. The aircraft can carry up to 23 tonnes of cargo, opening up many more trade opportunities in the region.

Emirates has signed a codeshare agreement with Exeter-based Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline. The news comes as Flybe reports a £35.6 million pre-tax loss for financial 2014, having seen a profit of £8.1 million a year earlier. The losses were largely down to a one-off charge linked to its exit from a joint venture in Finland.

Emirates will launch a daily service to Bologna, Italy, from its base in Dubai on November 3rd, 2015. The capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, Bologna will be Emirates’ fourth Italian destination bringing Emirates’ weekly flights to Italy to 56. Set to be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER in a three class configuration, Emirates will offer the only long-haul wide-bodied service to and from Bologna.
