Dubai Airports continues upward trajectory
Dubai Airports has announced traffic statistics for Dubai World Central which showed the airport handled 219,092 tonnes of air freight during its second full calendar year of operations, an increase of 144 per cent over 2011. In 2012 Dubai World Central’s average monthly air cargo volumes totalled 18,258 tonnes compared to 7,477 tonnes recorded during the airport’s first full year of operations in 2011. Cargo transit traffic comprised 44,052 tonnes or 20 per cent of volumes.
Dubai Tourism partakes in the biggest networking forum in South Asia
The Department of Tourism and Commerce marketing participated for the seventh successive year at the South Asia’s biggest travel and tourism exhibition held recently in the Indian capital New Delhi. During its 20 co-participants displayed Dubai’s attractions and tourism product, DTCM has gradually built its presence at SATTE over the last six years and continues to foresee larger inflow of buyers.

Dubai International Terminal 1 refurbishment to begin
A major refurbishment of Dubai International Terminal 1 is due to begin in the first quarter of this year which, when complete, will offer passengers a vastly improved travelling experience. The refurbishment includes more efficient and streamlined baggage screening in the departures hall, the replacement of all check-in desks, upgrade of baggage systems and the modernisation of all public areas.

The Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing has appointed independent travel PR agency Limelight to manage its UK PR account, following a competitive three way pitch. The UK is currently the third largest source market in the world for visits to Dubai, where global tourist numbers totalled over nine million visitors in 2011.
DTCM heritage events concourse at heritage sites during the Shopping Festival
The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing has lined up a host of events at its heritage sites during the Dubai Shopping Festival in its 18 edition. DTCM organises a collection of activities spread over a number of heritage sites including the “Shindagha” overlooking the Dubai Creek and Hatta heritage areas. Dubai set for luxury tourism revival

Dubai to offer multiple entry visas for first time
UAE authorities have introduced a multiple entry visa for businessmen, property investors and cruise passengers, a plan that has been under discussion for almost three years. The previous visa process imposed financial burden as well as a lot of documentation procedures for the tourists of 32 nationalities who did not automatically receive visas on arrival.
