Tourism industry welcomes Dubai visa decision
Tourism industry insiders have welcomed the United Arab Emirates’ recent announcement granting visas on arrival for an additional 13 EU nationalities. The Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing’s revealed news of the UAE’s new visa exemptions at ITB Berlin with the decision hoped to further strengthen Dubai’s competitive advantage in the field internationally, allowing incentives and event organisers to offer packages to a wider range of nationalities with greater ease.
Dubai International continues passenger ascent
Dubai International started the New Year with record monthly traffic, exceeding 6.4 million passengers in January. According to the traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports, passenger traffic reached 6,400,706 in January 2014, up 15.1 per cent from 5,559,760 recorded during the same month in 2013.
Dubai International sees record breaking 2013
Dubai International, the world’s second busiest international hub, registered another banner year with annual passenger traffic reaching 66,431,533 in 2013, following a record-breaking December when passenger numbers eclipsed the six million mark for the first time. Annual passenger traffic of 66,431,533, up 15.2 per cent compared to 57,684,550 recorded during 2012, represents the airport’s highest total ever thanks to network expansion and monthly passenger numbers which exceeded five million for 12 consecutive months.

Dubai has entered the Guinness Book of World Records following a dazzling firework extravaganza to see in the New Year. As part of the largest ever display, fireworks were launched from some 400 points along the shoreline of the emirate, centred over the Palm Jumeirah and The World islands.

Dubai International, the world’s second busiest international hub, is set to surpass the traffic forecast for the year, as the airport recorded another month of high growth this November, according to the monthly traffic report issued by Dubai Airports. With traffic in November reaching 5,337,544, up 9.5 per cent compared to 4,875,003 in the corresponding period in 2012, the airport has registered 12 consecutive months with monthly traffic exceeding five million passengers.

Atlantis, The Palm changes hands in Dubai
Government-backed Dubai World has sold Atlantis, The Palm, to Investment Corp of Dubai as it seeks to raise capital to pay down debts following a restructuring in 2011. In a statement, Investment Corp of Dubai, which is also state owned, said the move would allow for the development of the property and Dubai as a world-class tourism destination.
