Airbus highlights the future of aviation at ILA Berlin Air Show 2012
Airbus will showcase a large number of new developments at this year’s ILA Berlin Air Show (11-16th September), including the A320 with Sharklets – fuel saving wing tip devices - for the first time in Germany.
Airbus links with Tsinghua University for biofuel exploration
Airbus and one of the world’s leading academic institutions, Tsinghua University, have formed a partnership to complete a sustainability analysis of Chinese feedstocks, and to evaluate how best to support the development of a value chain to speed up the commercialisation of aviation bio-fuels. The value chain aims to produce and to promote the use of aviation bio-fuel in China, the world’s fastest growing aviation market.
Philippine Airlines places $7bn Airbus order
Philippine Airlines has placed a firm order with Airbus covering more than 50 aircraft consisting of single aisle A321s and widebody A330-300s, the latest High Gross Weight models. The first batch of aircraft is being ordered under a major fleet modernisation program at the airline with deliveries starting in 2013.
UTair signs further 20 A321 planes from Airbus
UTair has signed a firm contract with Airbus for 20 A321 aircraft during. This is the largest order for the type received from a carrier in Russia and the first time that UTair has ordered Airbus aircraft.
China Aircraft Leasing Company takes control of 36 A320 aircraft
China Aircraft Leasing Company, a rapidly growing Hong Kong-based aircraft leasing company, has signed a memorandum of understanding for 36 current generation A320 Family aircraft. The deal includes eight A321s, the largest member of the A320 family and operators will be able to select Airbus’ new fuel saving Sharklets.
Drukair places Airbus A319 order at Farnborough
Bhutan’s national airline Drukair has signed a firm order for an Airbus A319 aircraft equipped with Sharklet fuel saving wing tip devices to complement its existing fleet of two A319s. The order announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February.
Airbus begins A320neo production
The first ‘cutting of metal’ for the Airbus A320neo has taken place in Toulouse, France. Marking the start of manufacturing of the airliner, machining began of the first engine pylon component at the Saint-Eloi Airbus dedicated pylon and nacelle factory in Toulouse.

Malaysia Airlines joins Airbus A380 club
Malaysia Airlines has taken delivery of its first A380 aircraft at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, becoming the eighth carrier of the world’s largest and most eco-efficient airliner. The new aircraft will fly non-stop from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, three times a week, from July 2nd 2012.
Airbus moves into Japan corporate jet market
Airbus has won its first corporate jet sale in Japan, adding a new customer and building on its growing presence in the important Asia Pacific market. The aircraft, an Airbus ACJ318, has one of the widest and tallest cabins of any corporate jet, while being similar in size externally to traditional business jets.
Boeing, Airbus and Embraer sign biofuels deal
Boeing, Airbus and Embraer have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on the development of drop-in, affordable aviation biofuels. The three leading airframe manufacturers agreed to seek collaborative opportunities to speak in unity to government, biofuel producers and other key stakeholders to support, promote and accelerate the availability of sustainable new jet fuel sources.
Airbus predicts bright future for Indian aviation
While the travails of Kingfisher Airlines may have been making headlines recently, the future of aviation in India appears rosy. According to Airbus’ latest market forecast, Indian carriers will require 1,043 new aircraft valued at US$145 billion between now and 2030 to satisfy surging annual demand.
