Air Canada and Turkish Airlines have signed a reciprocal code sharing agreement that will make it easy and convenient for customers to connect between the two Star Alliance partner airlines. The agreement, to take effect the beginning of the second quarter of 2013, will leverage Air Canada’s planned Toronto-Istanbul route launching this summer pending receipt of government approval.

Air Canada is planning a major expansion of its international services. The carrier is launching a new non-stop route between Toronto and Seoul, starting service to Istanbul subject to government approval, adding seven weekly departures to Beijing from Toronto and Vancouver, and upgrading its Calgary-Tokyo Narita route to provide daily service.

Air Canada will manage its codeshare flights with SchedConnect from Lufthansa Systems. Both companies recently signed a five-year contract to this effect. The leading solution enables Air Canada to optimise its codeshare management and to lower costs and increase revenue. Lufthansa Systems will host the new system in its own data center.

Air Canada has launched an investigation after a passenger on a domestic flight found a needle in an onboard sandwich. Police in Canada are also involved in the incident, which occurred on a July 30th flight from Victoria, British Columbia to Toronto.

Aeroplan today announced that it has reached an agreement with Air Canada through which Air Canada will transfer to the Aeroplan defined benefit pension plan all the pension plan assets and obligations related to pension benefits accrued by employees who were Air Canada or Canadian Airline Customer Sales & Service Agents prior to 2009 and who transferred to Aeroplan in 2009.
Air Canada extends St John’s flight offering
Air Canada has announced it is to extend seasonal non-stop service between London Heathrow and St. John’s, Newfoundland this summer, operating flights daily from until October 27th 2012, four weeks longer than originally scheduled. St. John’s is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador with a growing population of nearly 200,000 and has seen high levels of commercial development over the past ten years, resulting from an oil-driven economic boom.
