IATA AGM 2014: New Distribution Capability revealed in Doha
The International Air Transport Association has announced three new pilot programs to test the New Distribution Capability schemas. Pilot participants include Aeroflot, Aer Lingus, Qatar Airways, and JR Technologies. NDC is a travel industry-supported program launched by IATA for the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard.
Manchester United sign Aeroflot deal
Manchester United has announced a five-year partnership with Aeroflot, with the Moscow-based international airline to become the club’s Official Carrier. This partnership marks the club’s first commercial venture in Russia - an expanding market it is keen to explore further and where it has close to 18 million followers.
Aeroflot will offer satellite-based onboard Wi-Fi service
Russian airline Aeroflot has confirmed Wi-Fi internet will be available on 26 long-haul airplanes by the end of the year. Some 22 Airbus 330 and four Boeing 777 airliners will be connected to internet through satellite-based onboard Wi-Fi, many in the first quarter of the year.
Aeroflot flight makes emergency landing following bomb threat
An Aeroflot flight from New York to Moscow has been forced to make an emergency landing in Reykjavik after a bomb threat. The Russian plane was forced to land after air traffic controllers in Moscow received an anonymous call saying a bomb was on board the flight.
Aeroflot links with Travelport for content deal
Travelport and Russian airline Aeroflot have announced a new agreement that secures full content from the carrier for Galileo and Worldspan-connected travel agents worldwide. Effective immediately, the five year deal provides all Travelport GDS users with access to the fares and inventory of Aeroflot, including the carrier’s best published fares and functionality parity with all other distribution channels.
Russia to act on unsafe airlines
Russian authorities are to ground unsafe airlines as the country mourns the latest in a series of deadly accidents. Following the deaths of 43 people from the Lokomotiv ice hockey squad in an air disaster earlier this week, president Dmitry Medvedev ordered officials to “discontinue the operations of air carriers incapable of ensuring flight safety”.

Boeing and Aeroflot Russian Airlines have announced an order at the Paris Air Show for eight Boeing 777-300ERs (extended range) jetliners.
Boeing confirms £2.4bn Russia deal
American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has signed a deal worth £2.4 billion to provide state-owned Russia Technologies with 50 737 aircraft. The deal is the latest in a string of orders for Boeing, which has also confirmed it will increase production of the 737 to 38 airplanes per month from early 2013.

Russian aviation poised for radical overhaul
Russia’s troubled aviation market is poised for a radical overhaul after the government approved plans to merge six state-owned airlines into its flagship carrier Aeroflot. The green light from Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will boost Aeroflot’s share of the domestic market from 15 per cent to up to 35 per cent.
Russian billionaire Lebedev sells Aeroflot stake for $400m
Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev is to sell his stake in Aeroflot for $400m (£247m) in a bid to raise cash for other projects in aviation, agriculture and publishing. He was the state-controlled airline’s largest shareholder with 25.8 percent.
Aeroflot to cut 2000 jobs
Aeroflot, the Russian flag carrier has revealed plans to cut 2,000 jobs, or 13 percent of its workforce, in the next half-year, after its profits dropped amid higher fuel prices.
