Virgin Australia moves in to Tiger Airways’ space

In the cut throat world of aviation airlines rarely miss an opportunity to take advantage of a competitor’s misfortune, with Virgin Australia quick to maximise its advantage from the grounding of Tiger Airways.

With Tiger out of action until at least July 31st, Virgin Australia is offering a range of discounted fares on selected Australian domestic city pair destinations.

Tiger customers who are holding bookings made on or before July 1st for travel from July 9th up to and including July 17th are eligible.

Routes include Adelaide to Melbourne and Sydney, Melbourne to Brisbane and Brisbane and Sydney. All are priced at A$130.

Affected Tiger passengers are advised to email their itinerary through to the Guest Contact Centre.

Air New Zealand

Also today, Air New Zealand confirmed tickets for its codeshare trans-Tasman alliance with Virgin Australia had gone live.

The deal sees the airlines add reciprocal codeshare on each other’s trans-Tasman networks and applicable connecting domestic services.

Services begin on July 26th.

Air New Zealand group general manager Australasia, Bruce Parton, said: “From July 26th, Air New Zealand customers will benefit from Virgin Australia’s extensive domestic network, gaining access to 29 ports around Australia.

“Product consistency is an important part of this alliance and in addition to the joint offering announced today, there will be further improvements to both airlines’ products and services as we move towards an integrated alliance trans-Tasman flight schedule in November.”
