Viceroy Maldives gets new general manager

Global luxury hospitality chain Viceroy Hotel Group has appointed Mark Sterner as General Manager at Viceroy Maldives. Sterner will oversee all the operations in the Yabu Pushelburg designed property, effective immediately.

“Mark brings over 17 years of experience at top-tier hotels and resorts, including properties in the West Indies, Scotland and Dubai,” remarks Bill Walshe, CEO of Viceroy Hotel Group.  “His expertise and knowledge of the industry will be a valuable attribute to Viceroy Maldives. Mark is the perfect individual to direct the property’s remarkable staff in their continued efforts to maintain the level of luxury and superior service for which Viceroy Hotels and Resorts are world-renowned.”

Most recently, he served for two years as the Hotel Manager at The Carlyle, a luxury property in New York City. Prior to The Carlyle, Sterner was the Resort Manager at Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands where he and his team elevated the level of service and guest experience to new heights and won accolades from the travel industry.

In the past decade, Mark has also filled several senior management positions in equally acclaimed properties including Sandy Lane in Barbados, Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai and the K-Club in Barbuda. A true citizen of the world, Mark was born in Germany and raised in some very exciting locations such as Tunisia, The Gambia and Egypt during his formative years.  Mark earned his Hospitality Management Degree from the Hotel School in Hannover.

As the new General Manager for Viceroy Maldives, Sterner will continue to further its unrivalled reputation for excellence.  The property is the newest addition to Viceroy Hotel and Resorts’ luxury property lineup.
