A new initiative from Vila Vita Parc will allow the resort’s guests to discover the real Algarve with a range of authentic experiences covering the history, culture, landscape, natural beauty, traditions, art, crafts and gastronomy of the region.

The Algarve 10 + 1 Authentic Experiences guide is in the form of a beautifully designed fold-out map which includes original illustrations by Algarve artist Ken Mosley, complemented by ten suggestions of places to visit or things to see in each of the ten main regions of the Algarve.

The regions included are: Sagres, Aljezur, Monchique, Silves, Alte, Faro, the Ria Formosa, Tavira and Guadiana, together with a special feature on Maritime Trips with Vila Vita´s own Yacht.

The “+ 1” section covers Herdade dos Grous, Vila Vita Parc’s award-winning wine estate in the Alentejo, less than an hour’s drive from the central Algarve.

The guide, developed in association with a local non-profit organization, is part of Vila Vita Parc’s commitment to encouraging responsible, sustainable tourism in the Algarve, and to promoting the fact that there is far more to the region than sun, sea and golf. 

Included among the suggestions are:

Sagres: bird watching, the wild beaches of the Vicentine coast and cycling along the Algarvian Way

Aljezur: the winery museum in Odeceixe, the Muslim fortress of Ribat de Arrifana and donkey treks along the coast

Monchique: pottery workshops, picnics in the Pisoes Ravine and spa treatments in Caldas de Monchique

Silves: the castle and gothic cathedral, the museum of archaeology and the Neolithic tombs at Vale Fuzeiros

Alte: the Seven Fountains footpath in Querenca, the flora of Rocha da Pena and the wooden toy workshop of Da Torre

Faro: the municipal museum, the stork nests at Arco de Vila and the cobbled streets of Salir
Ria Formosa: boat trips to the barrier islands, underwater photography courses and watching traditional salt panning in the estuary

Tavira: the costume museum in Sao Bras, cultural tours of Tavira and the natural waterfall at Pego do Inferno

Guadiana: river trips, the historic mine at Cova dos Mouros and historic tours of Alcoutim

Maritime Trips: charter Vila Vita Parc’s private yacht, book a champagne sunset cruise and go deep-sea fishing or diving

Herdade dos Grous: wine tasting, cookery courses or horse-driven carriage rides around the estate
