Tryp by Wyndham Dubai goes plastic bottle free in sustainability push
The installation of a mains water filtration technology and a sophisticated in-house refilling process has enabled the Tryp by Wyndham Dubai to remove the use of plastic bottled water, reports Phil Blizzard in the United Arab Emirates.
It was during a recent stay at this contemporary-hotel in the Barsha Heights District of the city that I came across, on their in-house television service, a video feature on the refilling process.
My curiosity led me to discover more about the system and on the hotel becoming 100 per cent plastic bottle free.
Jo-Ella Moore, general manager, Tryp by Wyndham Dubai, told Breaking Travel News: “We are acutely aware of our responsibility to the UAE to reduce plastic waste and are delighted to partner with No More Bottles in this ground-breaking initiative.
“By phasing out plastic bottled water along with our in-house refilling process and other green initiatives, we aim to raise the bar in terms of environmental best practice in the hospitality industry.”

The system works by connecting a technologically-advanced water filtration unit to the hotel’s mains water supply.
The filtered water runs to a dispenser that delivers water of different temperatures - even sparking water.
Using techniques including reverse osmosis and UV light, water is made free from contaminants and chlorine, eliminating the need for expensive and environmentally unfriendly plastic bottles.
The glass bottles, once used, are cleaned, refilled and labelled in-house
The initiative is a collaboration with No More Bottles which was founded by two British expatriates living in Dubai who have extensive experience within the UK and UAE bottled water industry.
The hotel’s investment in the project is part of its LUVE (Love Your Vibrant Earth) initiative, which was introduced in 2018 to reduce waste, re-use materials, and give back to its community and guests.
