Tourism Australia has partnered with the Telegraph Media Group to launch a free of charge destination app to help potential holidaymakers plan their own Australian adventures.

It is one of the first long haul travel apps the Telegraph has produced, and the first that gives users the opportunity of downloading seven additional stand-alone travel guides each representing a different region of Australia.

It is available on iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

All of the content has been written by experts based in Australia and will be updated over the next 12 months to ensure the recommendations for restaurants, bars, beaches, wildlife experiences and accommodation are all current.

Denise von Wald, Tourism Australia’s Regional General Manager UK/Northern Europe, says the app will be a huge help for British tourists wanting to make the most of Australia’s array of attractions.

“We understand that some tourists might initially feel a little daunted because there are so many must-see places and experiences in Australia,” Ms von Wald says. “But this new app will show them how straightforward planning a holiday Down Under can be.”

“The app offers Australian holidays in a variety of two, three and four week itineraries. The creation of seven individual state and territory guides also helps explain the diversity of the country’s attractions, giving insider tips from local experts on how to make the most of a stay in each region.”

Charles Starmer-Smith, Travel Editor for the Daily Telegraph, says: “We are delighted to have worked in partnership with Tourism Australia to bring the first country-wide guide to the award-winning Telegraph Travel app. Highlighting only the very best of this wonderfully diverse country by using resident experts, this free app has already been downloaded by 120,000 people. With inspiring itineraries, interactive mapping, GPS tracking and insider advice on where to stay, eat, drink and what to experience, this is your passport to a better trip down under.”
