Summer always arrives with the familiar question of ‘what shall we do this weekend?’
While big trips and plans often the attention, some of the best days out are wonderfully simple and affordable: a bike, a scenic path, and a good café stop.
British commuter bike brand, Quella, is a firm believer that cycling doesn’t have to be about speed, distance or personal bests. Some of the most memorable rides are the ones that involve a long lunch, a spontaneous detour or an excellent slice of cake.
Experts at the brand have rounded up five accessible, enjoyable cycle routes across the UK - ideal for families, casual riders, or anyone looking to spend more time outdoors without the faff of planning or travel. From the Thames Path and Richmond Park to the Camel Trail in Cornwall, each route offers relaxed riding, great views and plenty of places to pause for coffee, cake or a long lunch.
Richmond Park & Thames Path, London
If you’re staying closer to home this summer, it’s hard to beat Richmond Park. Start with a loop through the park before joining sections of the Thames Path towards Richmond, Kingston or Hampton Court. You’ll find plenty of riverside pubs, cafés and picnic spots along the way.

Bristol & Bath Railway Path
A classic traffic-free route connecting two great cities. Following a former railway line, the path is largely flat and ideal for families, casual riders and anyone who prefers conversation to climbing hills.

Camel Trail, Cornwall
One of Britain’s most popular leisure rides, and for good reason. The route follows a disused railway line through some of Cornwall’s best scenery, with estuary views, waterside cafés and plenty of opportunities to stop for an ice cream.

Monsal Trail, Peak District
Railway tunnels, dramatic limestone valleys and some of the finest scenery in the Peak District. The route is almost entirely traffic-free and makes for a brilliant family adventure.

New Forest Cycle Routes
The New Forest is made for leisurely summer cycling. Expect quiet tracks, ancient woodland and the occasional encounter with a wandering pony. It’s one of those places where the journey matters far more than the destination.
