Stars line up for Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament
The 2012 Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am will welcome a number of leading Hollywood stars for the golf tournament at Mission Hills • Haikou, October 19th-21st.
Celebrity participants include Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody, Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia, Canadian film and television actor Ryan Reynolds, American actress Minka Kelly, the greatest action heroine Michelle Yeoh and Korea’s top male movie star Jeong Woo-Seong.
They will join a host of luminaries from Hong Kong and Mainland China in what is being billed as China’s biggest entertainment event of the year.
Talent from closer to home includes renowned film director Feng Xiaogang, He Ping, actors Wang Zhiwen, Zhang Guoli, Zhang Jiayi, Sun Nan, Eric Tsang, Simon Yam, Michael Wong, Leon Lai, Charlie Young, Gigi Leung, actresses Michelle Chen and Coco Lee.
Speaking ahead of the announcement, Ken Chu, chairman and chief executive of Mission Hills Group said: “The objective of the World Celebrity Pro-Am has always been to take golf to a new level, not just in China but across the region.
“We’re delighted to have so many international stars on board and we look forward to welcoming them to Mission Hills.”
Already internationally acclaimed for staging championship golf events, the World Celebrity Pro-Am will put Mission Hills on the world map for overall entertainment experiences.
“We’ve always emphasize that Mission Hills is about more than just golf.
“What we’re doing is creating general entertainment for people, so whether you’re into film, celebrities, golf or just sport in general, there’s going to be something for you,” added Chu.
Other confirmed star participants include 22-time Olympic medal winner Michael Phelps, former NBA Superstar Yao Ming, Brazilian football hero Ronaldo, former world No.1 tennis player Pat Cash and former world No. 1 snooker player Stephen Hendry.
From the world of golf, the field will boast no less than three golf major winners in Darren Clarke, Ian Woosnam and Tony Jacklin, as well as four-time PGA Tour winner and current PLAYERS Champion Matt Kuchar.
Charitable beneficiaries of the World Celebrity Pro-Am include The Yao Ming Foundation and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The internationally acclaimed tournament was first staged in 2010 and has already become one of the region’s leading lifestyle and entertainment events.
It will adopt a new tournament format to make it more entertaining and fun.
The professional golfers will compete for a prize purse of US$1 million dollars.
