Spirit Airlines to launch new nonstop route to this Caribbean island out of San Antonio

Spirit Airlines is launching a new nonstop route between San Antonio, Texas, and San Juan, Puerto Rico in March.

The route, which will begin on March 5, 2025, will mark San Antonio International Airport’s first nonstop flight to San Juan. Service to Puerto Rico’s capital will run year-round up to four days a week, according to airport officials.

San Antonio International Airport announced the San Juan route Friday, as well as several new nonstop routes to other vacation destinations in the U.S.

“More than two years ago, Spirit Airlines launched a service to San Antonio International Airport with two destinations,” said Jesus Saenz, SAT director. “With the support of the community, Spirit has grown substantially, and we are thrilled to see air service continue to expand at SAT.”

Spirit Airlines will also be expanding its service in February and March to offer seasonal flights to New Orleans, Miami and Tampa. Tickets are available for purchase on Spirit’s website.
Spirit Airlines is currently undergoing changes, not only with its service expansions but also in reorganizing its finances.

The budget airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November after reaching a restructuring support agreement with bondholders.

The airline has faced various challenges over the past few years, including a blocked attempt to sell the company to JetBlue, an engine recall that canceled hundreds of flights and weaker-than-expected sales.
