According to the latest figures, Russian Railways carried 93.8 million passengers on its infrastructure in May 2012, 5.8% more than in May 2011. Suburban passenger numbers increased by 6.2% to 84.8 million, while long-distance passengers rose 1.8% to 9.1 million.

Passenger turnover in May 2012 amounted to 11 billion passenger-kilometres, up 2.6% on May 2011.

During January-May 2012, Russian Railways carried a total of 402.6 million passengers, an 8.2% increase over the same period in 2011. Long-distance passengers numbers increased to 41.3 million, up 2.7% on the first five months in 2011, while suburban commuters rose 8.8% to 361.4 million.
