Pakistani Airlines jet comes under attack in Peshawar

Gunmen have killed at least one passenger as a Pakistani Airlines plane came under attack as it landed at Peshawar Airport.

A further two people were injured as flight PK756 came under attack earlier with 178 passengers on board.

The plane was on route from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The latest incident follows a deadly attack by militants on Karachi airport this month.

That incident sparked an army offensive against insurgent positions in the North Waziristan region.

Police officer Dost Muhammad Khan told Associated Press five bullets had hit the plane.

Pakistan’s army launched the offensive in North Waziristan a week ago, bombarding Taliban targets in the tribal area.

Some 350,000 people have since been displaced, many arriving at the town of Bannu in overloaded vehicles.
