Oman Air has placed an order for Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines to power the three Airbus A330s it currently has on order.

The order also includes long-term TotalCare service support.

The Trent 700 is the market leading engine for the Airbus A330, and powers Oman Air’s existing fleet of four A330-200s and three A330-300s, which have been introduced since 2009.

Salim Al KIndy, chief technical officer, Oman Air, said: “Our new Airbus A330s will play an important role in Oman Air’s continued expansion and we are pleased that they will be powered by the outstanding Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine.

“Our evaluations found the Trent 700 to be the best solution for our fleet and that it will provide market-leading environmental performance, with low emissions, noise and fuel burn.

“Furthermore, Rolls-Royce TotalCare service support provides us with the ability to maximise aircraft availability and manage servicing cost, enabling us to plan effectively and ensure that our reputation for outstanding passenger service is strengthened.”

The Trent 700 is the only engine specifically designed for the Airbus A330 and more than 1,400 Trent 700 engines are currently either in service or on order.

Oman Air is currently undergoing an ambitious fleet expansion programme, which will see its current fleet of 30 Airbus A330, Boeing B737, Embraer E175 and ATR 42 aircraft joined by a further 11 B737s and six B787s, as well as the three A330s which will be powered by the Trent 700s order that has just been announced.
