London Welcomes Cyprus at World Travel Market 2024
Cyprus’s Deputy Minister for Tourism, Costas Koumis, is set to travel to London this week to lead a Cypriot delegation at the highly anticipated World Travel Market (WTM) 2024. As one of the largest tourism events globally, WTM offers an unparalleled platform for Cyprus to engage with top-tier tourism companies, air carriers, and tour operators. The UK remains a pivotal market for Cypriot tourism, with 1.13 million British visitors recorded in the first nine months of 2024—a 5% rise compared to last year.
The Deputy Ministry announced that Koumis will participate in several high-profile meetings and a dedicated ministerial session focused on artificial intelligence’s transformative role in tourism. Accompanying him are the Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Ministry and senior officials, demonstrating Cyprus’s commitment to expanding its tourism partnerships.
More than 50 Cypriot entities, including travel agencies, hotels, and regional tourism development organizations, will also represent the island at the event. Key participants include the Cyprus Hoteliers Association, Cyprus Tourist Enterprises, and Hermes Airports, which oversees the nation’s main airports. Their collective presence aims to strengthen Cyprus’s profile as a premier Mediterranean destination.
Cypriot kiosks at WTM 2024 will offer visitors a taste of local culture, featuring traditional treats prepared by the Cyprus Chefs Association and signature cocktails crafted with Commandaria wine, in collaboration with the Cyprus Bartenders Association. This immersive cultural showcase reinforces the island’s appeal as a travel destination that celebrates heritage and culinary traditions.
“Cyprus has consistently drawn large numbers of UK visitors, with nearly 1.3 million travelers from the UK recorded in 2023. WTM 2024 is a prime opportunity to deepen this connection by promoting our island’s unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty,” said Koumis. With the event set to attract a global audience, Cyprus’s delegation is optimistic about fostering new partnerships and expanding its reach into emerging markets.
