Kauai Lagoons Golf Club to Reopen Kiele Ocean Holes
New vacation package offers Jack Nicklaus championship golf with stays at adjacent Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach
The scene for golf in Kauai is about to experience a grand transformation. The distinctive Kauai Lagoons is set to raise the bar as the ultimate golf destination with the long anticipated re-opening of its Kiele ocean holes, now called the Kiele Moana Nine (former Kiele back 9). Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, the Kiele Moana Nine will feature dramatic ocean views with Hawaii’s longest continuous stretch of ocean holes stretching more than half a mile.
Poised anew with the May 23rd reopening of the “Kiele Moana Nine,” the esteemed Kauai Lagoons Golf Club and the oceanfront Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach are offering an “Escape to a Great Golf Getaway” stay and play package, starting at $377 per room per night.
The “Escape to a Great Golf Getaway” package includes:
o Stay – in newly transformed guestrooms for two
o Play – two rounds of Kauai Lagoons golf per stay
The Kiele Moana Nine represents the first of three revitalization phases for the course. In the end, Kauai Lagoons Golf Club will provide 27 holes of Jack Nicklaus signature golf, which will also include the Kiele Mauka Nine (former Kiele front 9) and the Kiele Waikahe Nine (9 holes comprised of holes from the former Mokihana Course). All renovated holes will feature new TifEagle putting services, new bunker sand (silica), and design changes.

According to Nicklaus, “With these changes, Kauai Lagoons Golf Club is going to be an incredible golf facility with a premier layout and immaculate course conditions.”
In Hawaiian, “Moana” translates to “open ocean.” “Mauka” translates to “toward the mountain” which represents the views of Waialeale and holes played through guava and mango tree filled valleys. “Waikahe” translates to “flowing stream” and includes waterfalls, streams and other water features.
Fresh from a $50 million transformation that touched all hotel areas, the oceanfront Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach offers a contemporary look and feel with upgrades including all 356 guestrooms and suites, the redesigned Kukui’s Restaurant and Toro-Tei sushi bar. A new keiki (children’s) swimming pool with water spout features and a slide complements the resort’s 26,000-square-foot pool, the largest single-level pool in Hawaii.
