The youngest island in the Venetian lagoon, Isola delle Rose was created in 1870, positioned towards the sea to create a fresh microclimate apart from the stifling heat of the city.
Built as a respiratory clinic in the early 20th century, its temperate climate produces plants rarely found in Venice, including the resort’s own unique olive grove, which provides olive oil used in both spa treatments and at the Michelin-starred Dopolavoro restaurant.
At JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa, Italian star architect Matteo Thun has carefully reworked traditional buildings with contemporary, minimalist and sustainable luxury using fabrics, furnishings and glass by local artisans.
The resort’s 266 rooms and suites are light and airy, some with fantastic views over Venice, and are split between the JW historic main building – which has its own rooftop pool – the spacious JW Villas and the secluded Villa Rose, surrounded by its own beautiful private gardens and pool.
