Izmir – a candidate city to host the EXPO-2020

A month before a vote on Expo 2020, delegates of 105 BIE member states met in Izmir to attend the Symposium on “Health for All”. Delegation of “NC “Astana EXPO -2017” represented Kazakhstan on the event.

Izmir with its rich history of more than 8500 years has always been a meeting place for different cultures, languages and religions. Being the birthplace of Herodotus and Pahlen - the founders of ancient medicine and pharmaceuticals, Izmir is the best suited to host an exhibition on the stated theme “Health for All”.
The program of the Symposium was rich and interesting. Representatives of international organizations, prominent scholars and public figures were among the speakers. So, during the first day of the Symposium the addresses were made by: D.Kerkenzes, BIE representative, Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr. Yaman Tokat, Head of Liver Transplant Center at Florence Naytingale Hospital, Angelique Kidjo, Grammy winner, Dr. Serdar Çam, President of the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency, Rushen Yildirim, President of the Turkish Health Care Tourism Board, Dan Buettner, a member of the National Geographic Society and NY Times bestselling author, Kirsty Duncan, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Bekir Keshkinkilich, representative of the Ministry of Health of Turkey, Bart de Wit, IBM board member on health issues, Joshua Silver, Oxford Physics Professor.

The Turkish side has successfully demonstrated the benefits of the World’s Fair 2020, tried to reveal the theme of exhibition as much as possible.
