IHG signs 54 hotels in Europe

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has reported another successful period for hotel signings, adding a further 54 hotels to its European pipeline in the year from June 2010 to May 2011.

The 7,874 rooms are spread across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia,Turkey, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Kirk Kinsell, president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, IHG said, “Signing a further 54 properties is testament to the strength of our brands and reflects our commitment to growth in Europe. These new additions mean IHG continues to hold the hospitality industry’s largest development pipeline with 1,236 hotels worldwide.”


Hotel Indigo signings
Hotel Indigo Berlin Alexanderplatz and Hotel Indigo Berlin Hardenbergstraße are both owned and managed by Azure Property Group and are the first Hotel Indigo properties to open in Germany.

The 152 room Hotel Indigo Berlin Alexanderplatz, due to open in Spring 2012, is part of a new build development. Located in the eastern part of cultural and historic Alexanderplatz, it is close to local restaurants and bars as well as Berlin’s biggest railway station.

Hotel Indigo Berlin Hardenbergstraße is an 81 room office conversion. Due to open in Spring 2012, the hotel is located close to the famous Ku’damm Avenue, known for its designer shops, restaurants and bars.

Hotel Indigo Hamburg St Pauli, owned by 259.HPH-Hotelentwicklung Hamburg GmbH & Co KG, is a 94 room new build property, scheduled to open in Autumn 2012.

Hotel Indigo Birmingham is a 52 room office conversion within The Cube, Birmingham’s famous landmark building.  Owned by Commercial Street Hotel       Ltd and Quadrate Hotel Ltd, the hotel is scheduled to open in Autumn 2011.

Hotel Indigo York, owned by Sojourn Hotels, is a 101 room new build property located within the city walls of York and scheduled to open in Summer 2012. Sojourn Hotels will also open Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, a 60 room independent hotel rebranding to Hotel Indigo in Autumn 2011.

Hotel Indigo Newcastle, managed by Sanguine Hospitality Ltd, is due to open in Summer 2012. Currently a disused office building,Hotel Indigo Newcastle is part conversion, part new build. The148 room hotel is located in the heart of the city centre.

Hotel Indigo Madrid Gran Via is set to open in Spring 2012. The 89 bedroom hotel, owned by Orion, will be situated in the centre of Madrid, close to the Opera House, the Almudena Cathedral and the main museums in the area.  It also has easy access to       the main conference centres and train station, making it ideal for both business and leisure guests.

Hotel Indigo Lisbon Baixa, owned by Sowhat Turismo is set to open early 2014. The 139 room hotel is a conversion of an old convent located in the old city of Lisbon. Historic buildings in the old city centre are highly protected, making this project unique and a great fit with the Hotel Indigo brand.
