Icelandair takes flight to Venice
On May 22 2026, Icelandair inaugurated direct flights to Venice, Italy, from its hub in Reykjavik, marking the airline’s expansion into one of Europe’s most coveted destinations. The new route to Venice Marco Polo Airport reflects the carrier’s strategic commitment to growing its European network and connecting travellers to world-renowned cities.
Icelandair will operate three weekly flights between Reykjavík and Venice through to October 18, 2026, with departures scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights will be operated by a 737-MAX8 aircraft.
Venice joins Rome, Milan and Verona as Icelandair’s fourth Italian destination, offering seamless access to the enchanting canals, Gothic palaces, and artistic treasures of the one of the world’s most celebrated destinations.
Since the route was announced, it has already proved incredibly popular with passengers, with strong inbound and outbound bookings.
Tomas Ingason, Chief Commercial Officer of Icelandair says: “The launch of Venice is another step in strengthening Icelandair’s network between North America and Europe through our Keflavík hub. Venice is one of Europe’s most distinctive cultural destinations and has strong appeal across our key markets — from Iceland, from North America and from Italy. We are also proud that the launch coincides with our support for the Icelandic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, connecting Icelandic travellers with one of the world’s leading cultural events.”

Camillo Bozzolo, SAVE Group Aviation Development Director: “Iceland is a country particularly beloved by Italians, and the new flight to Reykjavik represents a great opportunity for travellers in our catchment area. Added to this is the network of connecting flights from the Icelandair’s hub to North America, with an offering that stimulates both the American market entering our country and the Italian outgoing market.”
Positioned midway between North America and Europe, Icelandair’s Keflavík hub provides a seamless gateway for travellers heading to Italy or travelling from there to North America, without having to transit through a major European airport.
Icelandair’s Stopover Programme also lets passengers pause their journey in Iceland for up to seven days at no additional airfare - turning their trip into a two-destination experience. Travellers from both Venice and North America can explore Iceland’s dramatic landscapes - waterfalls, geothermal lagoons, and black-sand beaches - before continuing to their final destinations.
