From 15 February 2009, Singapore Airlines’ customers traveling between Singapore and Istanbul will have a choice of ten flights a week, as a result of a new codeshare agreement between Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines.

From Istanbul and Dubai, customers will be able to enjoy the convenience of Singapore Airlines wide network of connections to Singapore, and other popular destinations in the Asia Pacific.  Singapore Airlines’ network covers 67 destinations in 35 countries. Customers from Singapore will also be able to connect on Turkish Airlines’ network to any of their 111 international destinations including routes to Turkey, Central Asia and the Middle East.

The signing ceremony held at Fairmont Hotel, Singapore, today, signified the forging of a closer relationship between the airlines, both members of Star Alliance.

This is a testament to the growing relationship between Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines, our Star Alliance partner and our efforts to maximize the opportunities offered by our combined network.  More importantly, customers are the ultimate winners, as they benefit from the extensive networks of both airlines linking between the Singapore and Istanbul hubs, and beyond, ” said Mr. Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President, Marketing and the Regions.

 

Turkish Airlines Executive Vice President (Commercial), Mr Orhan Sivrikaya said “As you all know we have reached an agreement with Singapore Airlines on Code-Sharing. Turkish Airlines and Singapore Airlines are proud of announcing this agreement to be effective since both parties put enormous efforts to get it prepared and ready for their valuable passengers. We have been making mutual agreements with other member airlines of Star Alliance including Singapore Airlines to cooperate with each other since Turkish Airlines became a member of this great organization. In this framework, Turkish Airlines has now developed this mutual cooperation with Singapore Airlines into a Code-Share Agreement which will provide opportunities for our passengers to transfer to connecting flights to Australia as well as other destinations in this region. On the other hand, Singapore Airlines will be able to connect its passengers to the countries of Europe, Africa, Middle East and to many more destinations in our region via Istanbul, the hub of Turkish Airlines.”

 

Customers can purchase tickets for the codeshare services from 15 February 2009 onwards. Members of Singapore Airlines’ frequent flyer programme, KrisFlyer will be able to accrue miles when they fly on the codeshare flights or on flights operated by Turkish Airlines. Likewise, miles will also be credited to members of Turkish Airlines’ Miles & Smiles programme when they fly on flights operated by Singapore Airlines. (Customers should check fare details as not every fare type may be eligible for frequent flyer mileage accrual.)
