Trinny respects Soca Warriors
International visitors to Trinidad will get a “SOCA WARRIORS” Welcome for Carnival 2006.On February 01, Senator the Honourable Chin Lee, the Minister of Tourism, Jack
Warner, FIFA Vice President and Sandra Perkins, General Manager of the Airport
Authority of Trinidad and Tobago unveiled the Piarco International Airport Carnival
Façade.
Designed in commemoration of our SOCA WARRIORS’ historic achievement at
qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the façade consists of five puppets standing
over 25 feet that represent the traditional Carnival characters of Minstrel, Pierrot
Grenade, King Sailor, Midnight Robber, and Fireman.
Since 2004 the Ministry of Tourism has been collaborating with the Airports
Authority of Trinidad and Tobago to transform the landscape of the Piarco
International Airport for our major national festival - that of Carnival. Exclaiming
his confidence that our SOCA WARRIORS will excel on the fields of Germany, Minister
Chin Lee envisioned that;
“Trinidad and Tobago will stomp its name in Germany with
our characteristic flair as we have carved our name in the annals of world history
with our Carnival, pan and chutney.”
The Piarco Carnival Figurines and highway pennants are intended to highlight to the
many international visitors expected this year the beauty, history and diversity of
the Carnival experience.

“It is essential that the first and last visual impression
that a visitor has of Trinidad and Tobago should reflect our vibrant multicultural
society, our heritage and the colour and energy of what is internationally known as
“The Home of Carnival”,” added the Minister.
