BET backs St. Lucia jazz

BET Event Productions (BEP), a division of Viacom
subsidiary Black Entertainment Television (BET), is set to announce the line up for the 15th St. Lucia Jazz Festival scheduled for May 5-14, 2006.

BET has been associated with the St. Lucia event from its inception and has overseen
its growth from a few hundred attendees when it began in 1992, to become the
Caribbean’s leading Jazz Festival, attracting more than 10,000 patrons from the
United States, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean annually.

After weeks of negotiations which included discussions with hotel and airline
sponsors, Cybelle Brown, Vice President for Sales and Marketing for BET Event
Productions and for BET Digital Networks, says arrangements are near completion and
a joint announcement with the St. Lucia Tourist Board will be made in the next few
days.

She said once that is done, the promotion of St. Lucia Jazz will move to the US, one
of the island nation’s major visitor markets. “We are putting together a 30 minute
preview show hosted by actress Kim Fields which we will begin airing at the
beginning of February on BET and BET Jazz, and then we immediately launch all
television promotions for the festival,” Brown explained.
