Star Alliance has linked its Canadian and USA networks with interline e-ticketing. Customers flying across its North America network can use one single electronic ticket. if their itinerary includes any combination of domestic and transborder flights operated by member carriers Air Canada, United and US Airways.
“Many of our customers already appreciate the advantages of travelling on e-tickets. We are very pleased to extend this innovative product to multi-carrier itineraries in one of the world’s most competitive aviation markets”, said Lee Hock Lye, Vice President Products and Services, Star Alliance.
On a global basis, Star Alliance is presently rolling out interline e-ticketing across the 16 carrier network spanning 790 destinations in 138 countries. A joint set of business rules and common message standards has been defined and testing between all carriers has been successfully completed. Since the end of August 2005 more than 70% of the necessary links have been put in place, allowing passengers travelling on the Star Alliance network to make use of more multi-carrier e-ticket combinations than on any other airline alliance. Additional itineraries will become e-ticket eligible by the end of the year.
