World Tourism Leaders Discuss Crisis Communication and Travel Advisories

World tourism leaders gathered in Amman for the regional TOURCOM Conference, today discussed Crisis Communication and Travel Advisories, as part of a bid to rebuild the regions tourism and overcome challenges brought about by geopolitical events.

The two-day Regional Conference on Tourism Communications (TOURCOM), which opened on yesterday, was organised by the Ministry of Tourism and the World Tourism Organisation.

Today’s sessions were centred around Crisis Communication and Travel Advisories. The aim was to establish how crisis in the tourism industry should be overcome. An
introduction was given by Ms. Deborah Luhrman, WTO Consultant, who was also moderating the session. Presentations were given by Mr. Ahmed El Khadem, Chairman, Egyptian Tourism Authority, Ms. Deborah Hindle Managing Director, bgb communications, United Kingdom and Mr. Ayman Safadi, Chief Editor, Al-Ghad Newspaper, Jordan. This was followed by a questions and answers session, which gave delegates an opportunity to put their concerns forward.

The next session will look at Cross Cultural Issues in Middle Eastern Tourism and will aim to reach some key objectives and overcome prevailing fears and misconceptions about the troubled Middle East which are stifling tourism to the region.
